Jump Start is a charity event that has been running for 9 years and gives 50 CanTeen and Project K teenagers the challenge of a lifetime when they get to jump out of a plane and experience a tandem skydive.

The premise of Jump Start is that the experience of being alive transforms. The elements are:

Facing fear: Discovering inner strength
Placing trust in others: Finding mutual support and team identity
Elation: Skydiving is an intense experience of being alive
Confidence: Gained from accomplishing the goal
Acknowledgement: Applause as they receive a certificate of accomplishment
Belonging: Being part of a group of first-time jumpers

The teenagers enjoyed stunning sunrise views of the Kaipara harbour, rainforests and beaches as they flew to altitude. The nerves at this point were building while they waited for the door of the plane to open and the wind to rush in. Freefalling from 10,000ft for an amazing 30 seconds, they reached speeds of up to 200kph. After freefall they experienced a beautiful parachute ride before landing safely back on the ground.

Jump Start is a not-for-profit organisation and funds raised are distributed to CanTeen and Project K. Lars Bojsen-Moller, Jump Start Director said “Fifty brave teenagers faced their fears today, discovered their inner strength and felt the experience of being truly alive. Jump Start celebrated its 9th birthday and is very proud to have partnered with Skydive Auckland to make it possible.”

Tony Green, Director of Skydive Auckland said "It's a privilege for Skydive Auckland to be involved in this event and it's fantastic to be able to offer these kids such a life changing opportunity.  It was an amazing day and we can't wait for next year!"

The unique event was extremely successful and the teenagers who took part were delighted at their achievements. Skydive Auckland are very proud to have sponsored such an amazing day for the second time. Thank you to everyone who helped to raise funds for this fantastic cause.
