Skydive Auckland hosts Jump Start 2015

Jump Start is a charity event that has been running for 9 years and gives 50 CanTeen and Project K teenagers the challenge of a lifetime when they get to jump out of a plane and experience a tandem skydive.

The premise of Jump Start is that the experience of being alive transforms. The elements are:

Facing fear: Discovering inner strength
Placing trust in others: Finding mutual support and team identity
Elation: Skydiving is an intense experience of being alive
Confidence: Gained from accomplishing the goal
Acknowledgement: Applause as they receive a certificate of accomplishment
Belonging: Being part of a group of first-time jumpers

The teenagers enjoyed stunning sunrise views of the Kaipara harbour, rainforests and beaches as they flew to altitude. The nerves at this point were building while they waited for the door of the plane to open and the wind to rush in. Freefalling from 10,000ft for an amazing 30 seconds, they reached speeds of up to 200kph. After freefall they experienced a beautiful parachute ride before landing safely back on the ground.

Skydive Auckland Charity Event

We hosted a Pink Ribbon Breakfast last month at Skydive Auckland to raise money for the New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation.

By mixing up the skydiving action with some fundraising fun we raised a fantastic $2,500!

The BBQ was fired up by 8am with breaky sponsored by Skydive Auckland and NZPF (New Zealand Parachute Foundation). We donated 10% of the price of every directly booked tandem skydive taken during the event. Parakai Airfield donated the total landing fee of every Skydive Auckland flight during the day, raising $1000.  This was a substantial donation to the charity and really boosted the fundraising total.

Our regular sport skydiving community enjoyed a two-way scrambles competition organised by the NZPF. This game involved a series of acrobatic positions during freefall which were filmed by a separate camera flyer to keep score of points achieved.

Well done everyone. A fantastic day for all involved!
